Sandy Restaurants: Scelto, Mint and a Nearby Del Barrio Stop
Salt & Seek / Sandy
A pasta dinner with a reservation. A table of sushi and small plates. Tacos with a side of consome. Your next meal around Sandy can go in three very different directions, and the useful question is which one fits tonight.
This guide starts with Scelto and Mint Tapas & Sushi in Sandy, then adds Del Barrio Cafe’s new Draper location at 11483 South State Street, near Sandy’s southern edge. That third stop gives you a nearby taco option while keeping the city and address clear.
Italian-inspired dinner
Scelto

Scelto is the choice for an evening built around a sit-down meal. The restaurant’s own story credits founder Waleska Iglesias with a concept centered on shared time at the table. Its name means “chosen” in Italian, and its menu moves between pasta, pizza, shareable starters and larger entrees.
There is a real budget distinction within that menu. Rigatoni with spicy vodka sauce and Parmesan is listed at $27, while Short Rib Ravioli is $36 and the short-rib entree is $43. Decide whether you want pasta as the main event or a larger protein-based dinner before adding starters. The restaurant describes its setting as suited to special occasions and gatherings.
What to order
- Arancini · $16.00: Rice bites served with marinara, fontina, smoked prosciutto and sage cream.
- Mushroom Pappardelle · $29.00: Pappardelle with mushroom ragu, miso, mascarpone, pecorino and lemon zest.
- Short Rib Ravioli · $36.00: House ravioli with toasted almond cream and lemon gremolata.
For a shared opening order, the $16 Arancini and $29 Mushroom Pappardelle make a $45 food subtotal before taxes, gratuity and drinks. The pappardelle’s miso and lemon zest distinguish it from a standard cream-and-mushroom description. Scelto also lists several $12 mocktails, including Lemon-Lavender Spritz, so a dinner plan does not have to revolve around wine.
Plan the visitScelto currently lists dinner Monday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Use its reservation link for your date; the dinner dishes below are not a promise about the brunch menu.

Sushi and small plates in Sandy
Mint Tapas and Sushi, Sandy

Mint is the flexible middle ground when one person wants sushi and another would rather order cooked dishes. The menu combines specialty rolls with tapas such as salmon belly, beef dumplings, lamb chops and vegetable dishes. Ordering several plates lets a group mix formats, though tapas prices should not be mistaken for the cost of a full meal.
The restaurant’s official history traces the business to Rice Basil in Holladay and identifies Chef Soy as its creator and executive chef. For this guide, the address that matters is the Sandy location at 8391 South 700 East. Mint has several branches, including Draper, so check the location before navigating or calling.
What to order
- Salmon Belly · $12.00: Marinated salmon belly with pickled radish.
- Poke Nacho · $17.00: Bigeye tuna, cucumber, avocado, seaweed salad and chips.
- Wagyu Crostini · $13.00: Baked wagyu, green-onion puree, cream cheese and papaya.
To compare cooked and raw choices, look at Salmon Belly with pickled radish versus Poke Nacho with tuna, cucumber, avocado and seaweed salad. A roll can round out a small-plate order: the $16 Cosmos lists cucumber and crab mix topped with eel, avocado and sesame seeds. Do not assume every fish dish is cooked; ask about preparation when that affects your order.
Plan the visitMint says reservations are not required for parties smaller than six at Sandy. Groups of six or more should call 385-434-8022. The online menu is shared across the brand; confirm branch availability and prices.

Nearby option on Sandy’s edge
Del Barrio Cafe, Draper

Del Barrio’s new Draper location adds a taco-focused meal near Sandy’s southern edge. It sits at 11483 South State Street. The business also has an older Midvale restaurant, but the menu and ordering link used here are specifically for Draper.
The menu gives you more choice than birria alone. Compare beef birria with chicken tinga, al pastor, fish or one of the vegetable taco orders. The three-taco birria order includes a small consome; the separate single birria taco specifically does not. That difference matters if dipping is the reason you came.
What to order
- Birria Tacos, three · $14.99: Cheesy beef birria tacos with onion, cilantro, salsa and a small side of consome.
- Chicken Tinga Tacos, three · $13.99: Chipotle-simmered chicken and onions with Jack cheese and Mexican crema.
- Mushroom Tacos, three · $12.99: Cremini mushrooms cooked with butter, white wine, garlic, onions and tomatoes, finished with Jack cheese.
A three-taco birria order at $14.99 plus Mexican rice at $2.19 and refried beans at $1.99 totals $19.17 before taxes and other charges. For a meatless direction, the mushroom and zucchini taco options are useful starting points, but their listed dairy means they should not be described as vegan. Confirm modifications directly.
