Salt Lake City Coffee Shops: Three Pines, Publik and Blue Copper
by Alex Urban on Oct 03 2026
Salt & Seek / Salt Lake City
Some mornings call for a straightforward espresso. Others need toast, a table and a little more time. These three Salt Lake City coffee shops give you different ways to build the stop: Three Pines on Main Street, Publik’s downtown roastery, and Blue Copper’s Central Ninth Coffee Room.
This guide compares the actual locations and what their published information supports. It complements our statewide coffee guide with three specific city stops, rather than claiming every Utah cafe serves the same purpose. Where pricing or menu details conflict, we say so.
Straightforward coffee on Main Street
Three Pines Coffee

Three Pines is a downtown stop for people who want the coffee itself to lead the order. The current homepage says the shop uses HEART Roasters coffee from Portland, avoids common sweeteners and syrups, and uses all-inclusive pricing with no tipping necessary.
Its menu organizes the choices around brewed coffee, espresso and espresso with milk. That makes the decision fairly direct: choose Daily Brew for a hot brewed cup, Cold Brew for coffee steeped for 24 hours and poured over ice, or espresso-and-milk when you want a milk-based drink.
What to order
- Daily Brew: Hot drip coffee brewed in small batches.
- Espresso: A double shot, with the current coffee choice confirmed at the counter.
- Cold Brew: Coffee steeped for 24 hours and served over ice.
We have deliberately left dollar figures out of this section. Repeating an older low price would be less useful than explaining the shop’s current all-inclusive approach. The menu lists eight- and twelve-ounce espresso-and-milk drinks; ask what is available on the day. If a heavily flavored latte is the main objective, compare Publik’s documented flavored-drink menu below before choosing.
Plan the visitFind it at 165 South Main Street. The website’s menu and homepage currently conflict on prices and syrup availability, so use the in-store board for the current total and customization options.

Coffee, toast and a downtown roastery
Publik Coffee, Downtown

Publik’s flagship at 975 South West Temple is both a cafe and the home of its roastery. The official location page describes a coffee bar built with recycled or repurposed materials, plus a food menu centered on toast. It is the most straightforward pick in this comparison when coffee needs to come with a more substantial bite.
There is room here for two different orders: a compact cappuccino for someone focused on espresso and milk, or a Browned Butter Caramel Latte for someone who wants a flavored drink. The latter uses a house-made sauce and has a size-dependent price. The food selection moves from simple Cinnamon Toast to Lox Toast and panini.
What to order
- Browned Butter Caramel Latte · $5.75–6.75: Espresso drink with house-made browned-butter caramel sauce; size affects price.
- Cappuccino · $4.50: Six-ounce drink with double espresso and four ounces of milk.
- Lox Toast · $11.25: Smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, capers, lemon, pepper and microgreens on peasant bread.
The current ordering page lists Lox Toast at $11.25 and a six-ounce Cappuccino at $4.50. Together that is $15.75 before applicable taxes, tips and additions. Avocado Toast is listed at $8.50 if you want another savory option. Some pastries were marked sold out during our check, so a photographed pastry should not be treated as a stock guarantee.
Plan the visitUse the downtown ordering link for 975 South West Temple. Publik has several locations, and menus, hours and pickup destinations can differ. Meeting rooms are offered separately; check booking terms rather than assuming one is included with a drink.

A local roaster’s Central Ninth cafe
Blue Copper Coffee Room

Blue Copper is the local-roaster stop in this comparison. The company dates its start to 2012 and the opening of its Coffee Room to 2014. Its story describes buying green coffee, roasting each origin and evaluating the results, which makes the cafe useful for someone interested in the beans as well as the finished cup.
The Coffee Room is at 179 West 900 South in Central Ninth. That is the public cafe address to use. The separate roastery at 425 North 300 West is listed as appointment-only, so it should not be substituted as the place to turn up for a latte.
What to order
- Espresso drinks: Ask which espresso and milk-drink options are available at the Coffee Room.
- Brewed coffee: A way to try coffee from the local roasting business without added milk.
- Tea: A confirmed non-coffee option; ask about the current selection.
The official cafe description confirms espresso drinks, brewed coffee, tea and a small pastry selection. It does not expose a reliable item-by-item price list or current pastry names. Start with espresso or brewed coffee and ask which coffee is being served; for a milk drink, ask the barista about the day’s options. We have not assigned an unverified price or invented a signature recipe just to fill the section.
Plan the visitBlue Copper’s official site currently lists the Coffee Room from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends. Confirm holiday or special hours before a late-afternoon visit.
