Tacos in Salt Lake City: Individual Orders or Three-Taco Plates?
by Alex Urban on Oct 19 2026
Salt & Seek / Tacos
Start with the ordering format: a named taco plate at the original Red Iguana, or individual tacos at Santo Taco in Rose Park. Here is how the menus differ before you choose.
A composed taco plate
Red Iguana’s menu specifies three tacos for Don Ramon and Tacos de Hongos, with each dish built around a defined combination.
Choose individual tacos
Santo Taco’s Rose Park menu gives separate prices for Birria, Calabacitas and El Chingon, making it easy to mix orders.
Red Iguana: choose the plate you want
The OG: 736 W North Temple St, Salt Lake City, UT 84116
Red Iguana’s official main menu covers its original restaurant and Red Iguana 2. This guide uses the original North Temple address. The distinction matters when booking or navigating, even where the menu is shared.
Tacos Don Ramon
This order includes three grilled corn tortillas with sirloin tips, pork chorizo, lettuce, cotija, pico de gallo and avocado salsa. It is the clear meat-combination choice among the three dishes discussed here: beef and pork together, rather than a single filling selected taco by taco.
Ramon’s Famous Fish Tacos
The menu specifies grilled fish of the day in soft corn tortillas, with coleslaw, cucumber salsa, limes and Spanish rice. Ask which fish is being used when you order. “Fish of the day” is a reason to check, not a fixed species that this guide can name in advance.
Tacos de Hongos
This three-taco order uses corn tortillas with mushrooms and Jack cheese, accompanied by guacamole and refried beans. It is a vegetarian choice on the menu, but the cheese means the listed preparation is not vegan. Ask directly about modifications if that distinction matters to your table.

The official main menu reviewed did not show prices for these taco dishes. We have left them unpriced rather than substituting delivery-platform figures. Confirm the current price and complete accompaniments with the restaurant before ordering.
Santo Taco: build an order one taco at a time
Rose Park: 910 N 900 W, Suite B, Salt Lake City, UT 84116
Use Santo Taco’s Rose Park menu for this stop. The branch-specific online menu lets you compare individual taco prices, so you can combine fillings without assuming that every location has identical prices or offerings.
Birria Taco: $4.50
The Rose Park listing describes braised beef and Monterey Jack in a crisp-fried corn tortilla, served with consomme. The preparation combines meat, cheese and a dipping accompaniment in one named order.

Calabacitas Taco: $4
This taco combines zucchini, corn, queso fresco and sour cream. It provides a vegetable-focused contrast to the birria, but it is not vegan as listed because both cheese and sour cream are included.
El Chingon Taco: $7.50
This is the more component-heavy option: asada, al pastor, bacon, fajita vegetables, guacamole and pickled onion. Its posted price is higher than the other two, so compare the combination you want rather than treating every taco on the menu as interchangeable.

What does a mixed order cost?
One Birria Taco + one Calabacitas Taco + one El Chingon Taco = $16 at the Rose Park menu prices checked October 19, 2026.
This is a three-item menu subtotal before tax, tip, drinks or extras. It is not a claim that three tacos are the right portion for every diner, or that they are equivalent in size to Red Iguana’s plates.
Choose the ordering format first
Choose Red Iguana if you want one of its named taco plates with a defined filling and accompaniments. Choose Santo Taco if you want to select individual tacos and compare different fillings within one order. That is a more useful distinction than declaring one restaurant universally better.
For dietary planning, Red Iguana’s mushroom taco and Santo’s Calabacitas both contain dairy. For fish, pork, wheat or other restrictions, ask staff about the full preparation and kitchen handling. Verify the exact branch, current hours and availability before traveling; the addresses above are the two locations covered here.
This guide is based on the restaurants’ published menus and location information, not a claimed firsthand visit. Restaurant photos may show other dishes or earlier seasonal offerings; the cover is an illustration.
