Ice Cream in Salt Lake City: Soft Serve at normal or Gelato at Sweetaly?
by Alex Urban on Oct 19 2026
Salt & Seek / Ice Cream
Choose a composed soft serve at normal on 900 South or work through Sweetaly’s gelato and sorbetto flavors on 1500 East. The useful difference is how you want your dessert served.
Choose normal for a composed soft serve
The 900 South store builds rotating desserts around soft serve, with toppings and formats spelled out on its menu.
Choose Sweetaly for gelato or sorbetto
The 1500 East shop publishes its Salt Lake City monthly flavor list separately from Holladay’s.
normal: decide on the dessert format
169 E 900 S, Salt Lake City
At normal, the first choice is not simply a flavor. You can choose a basic soft serve, a composed cone with several components, an ice cream sandwich or a dipped bar. The official 900 South store page lists daily hours of noon to 10 p.m.
Ooh-bae, you spooky: $6.50 half / $8.50 normal
This October composed cone combines ube soft serve, coconut cake, pandan mallow drizzle and cotton candy. It is the most direct choice here if you want a dessert assembled around a current seasonal combination. The listed half and normal sizes give you two price points without having to remove individual components.

The Norm: $6
The Norm pairs chocolate chip cookies with sweet cream ice cream. Choose the sandwich format if that cookie-and-ice-cream combination is what you came for, rather than choosing a cone solely because it is the most visible option.
Handle Bar: $6
This bar uses salted maple ice cream with a dark chocolate dip and brown butter crumb. It offers another clearly defined format and ingredient combination at the same posted price as The Norm.
A basic soft serve is listed at $4 for a half and $6 for a normal size. Check the current flavors on arrival. The menu also notes that a gluten-free composed option must be served in a cup; that is a service instruction, not a guarantee about cross-contact or suitability for every allergy.

Sweetaly: use the Salt Lake City flavor list
1527 S 1500 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84105
Sweetaly’s Salt Lake City shop lists daily hours of noon to 9:30 p.m. Its monthly menu separates this location from Holladay, so check the Salt Lake City column before making a trip for a particular flavor.
Three October choices to compare
Pumpkin & Spice and Cinnamon Sticky Rice are two named October gelato flavors on the Salt Lake City list. Pistachio is also listed, with the important limitation that it is offered on weekends only. These are flavor names from the current list; the page does not provide complete recipes for the seasonal flavors.
For a different direction, the same location lists Orange Pomegranate, Strawberry, Lemon and Dark Chocolate under sorbetti. Confirm ingredients with staff if you are choosing sorbetto because of a dietary restriction rather than a flavor preference.

Sweetaly says it makes its gelato with locally sourced milk and uses ingredients including Sicilian pistachios and Piemonte hazelnuts. Those are the shop’s published sourcing statements. They do not establish the complete ingredient list of every flavor.
The official pages reviewed did not publish serving prices, so this guide does not supply an estimate from a delivery app or a different branch. Check the counter menu for sizes, prices and the flavors actually available that day.

Which stop fits your plan?
- A specific layered dessert: use normal’s composed-cone description, then choose half or normal size.
- A sandwich or dipped bar: compare The Norm and Handle Bar at their posted $6 prices.
- A choice among gelato flavors: use Sweetaly’s Salt Lake City list, keeping the weekend-only pistachio restriction in mind.
- A later dessert stop: normal’s listed closing time is 10 p.m.; Sweetaly’s is 9:30 p.m. Recheck hours before leaving.
Neither menu is a promise of stock at the moment you arrive. For a seasonal item, confirm availability before arranging the rest of your evening around it.
